Dragon Ball Z was shown locally in RPN 9 in the mid 90’s. I recall having tantrums when my parents wouldn’t let me watch Dragon Ball Z back then. It was eventually cancelled. Years later, GMA 7 picked it up and finished the series, making it even more popular to the masses.
Choosing CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA as the first song for this series was a no-brainer: it’s one of the most popular anime songs around.
SM City North Edsa is the first SM Supermall, and the biggest mall in the country depending on how you measure it (it sometimes trades places with SM Megamall). It also has the biggest number of arcades with Japanese karaoke (Quantum, World of Fun, and Synergy) we’ve seen in a mall. It was also my go-to mall in my college days. All these made this mall the perfect candidate for the first episode.
